Karna Parva
Karna Takes Command – The Sixteenth Day Begins
After Drona's death, Karna becomes commander of the Kaurava army. For years he has promised Duryodhana that he will defeat Arjuna; now the burden of that promise stands at the center of the war.
Karna enters command with confidence in his weapons and martial skill, but the Kaurava army has already lost Bhishma, Drona and many great warriors. His leadership begins under enormous pressure.
On the sixteenth day Karna attacks the Pandava forces with great force. Bhima, Arjuna, Satyaki, the sons of Draupadi and other warriors meet the Kaurava advance across a battlefield already exhausted by fifteen days of slaughter.
Karna Parva therefore opens not with fresh armies, but with survivors carrying grief, vows and accumulated hatred into the final phase of the great war.
